Hit It Home: 8 Driving Golf Tips

Do you want to improve your golf game? Well, practice makes perfect.

Nowhere is that more true than in the game of golf. When you’re just starting, it’s easy to get discouraged by your score and frustrated with your swing, but if you work on getting better every single time you play, things are sure to improve over time.

So what parts of your game do you need to work on to improve your driving game? Do you need to keep your head still? Follow through?

Don’t worry, we’ve got your back! Here are eight driving golf tips for improving your driving game:

1) Focus on Your Release

As you hold the club, turn your left wrist so that the back of your hand is facing down toward the ground when in the address position. If there was a clock face in front of you at the address, six o’clock should be up in line with where you’re looking. Then, rotate only through this position until impact.

2) Turn Your Hips

While you want your wrists relaxed at impact, you must turn your hips so they face the target. You aren’t just swinging with your hands or arms; you need to use your entire body. If you don’t, then there is no power behind the swing and it will fall short of its potential.

3) Use Your Legs More

Don’t lean back as you’re hitting the ball. Instead of using only your arms and upper body, make sure that you push off with both feet as you hit through toward the cup on every stroke. It might take some getting used to, but with time you’ll be hitting the ball farther than ever before!

4) Lock Everything at Impact

Your legs, hips, arms, and shoulders should all be facing in toward your target at impact. This will help you to hit through the ball more effectively and generate a lot of power in your swing.

5) Keep Your Head Still

When you turn through the golf ball or try to get too much loft on your driver, you need to make sure that your head doesn’t move an inch from the moment of impact until after you’ve hit off.

If it does, it will throw off your swing and you won’t be able to hit the ball as easily or as far.

6) Keep Your Left Arm Straight

If you want to get more power from your drive, make sure that your left arm is not bent when you’re making contact with the golf ball. Keeping it straight throughout the entire arc of your swing will help to generate more power and send the ball flying off toward its intended target.

7) Focus on Tracking Your Swing

It’s common for people to try and “swing up” through the golf ball. This means they make contact with it high on their backswing and then drop down low before impact.

You can even try Tee Precision to improve your accuracy at the driving golf range.

8) Practice, Practice, Practice

There are few substitutes for putting in time on the driving range to help you improve your game. It’s the only way to truly master this aspect of your game. Get out there frequently and work on improving each day.
