Dressing for a Game of Golf

Golf can be a very satisfying and relaxing sport, and it can also be a lot of fun, especially when played with a group of friends. It’s a game that will get you out in the fresh air and teach you how to develop patience and skill; you may even be lucky enough to get a hole-in-one! Like any sport, though, it’s important to make sure you have dressed appropriately for your comfort, and a lot of clubs also have a dress code for those who are on the course. So here are some suggestions to help you make sure you’re wearing the right attire for your golf game.

Don’t Wear Jeans

A lot of courses will prefer players not to wear jeans when they are on the golf course, so it’s better to avoid them altogether. Trousers and khakis are the preferred attire, and smart shorts can be worn in the summertime to help keep you cool. Smart golfing skirts are also acceptable.

Collared Shirts

Jeans are very casual, and so are t-shirts. You might be able to get away with wearing a t-shirt in some cases, but collared shirts are considered to be typical golfing attire and will be expected. It’s better to follow these traditions to avoid disappointment in case the club you are playing at does have a strict dress code.

Jackets and Coats

If the day is overcast or there is a light rain forecast, you can still get out to enjoy a game of golf. However, you don’t want to end your round on the course soaking wet, so you might want to take a light waterproof jacket with you when you start your game. If you are playing during the cooler months of the year, a thicker coat will be necessary to help keep you warm. You might also want to take a hat and scarf with you to prevent catching a chill.

Golf Shoes

You’ll also need comfortable and smart golf shoes to wear when you’re walking around the course throughout your game. You should invest in quality shoes so that they will last longer and give you the right support while you’re wearing them. There are also a lot of respected sports brands that produce appropriate shoes for this sport, like Nike golf shoes, for example.

Golf Gloves

You don’t need to wear golf gloves if you don’t want to, but some people choose to do so on their weaker hands. For example, if you were right-handed, you would wear a glove on your left hand. You might like the way these gloves look, or you may find that it helps you to improve your grip on your club.

Caps and Sunhats

When you are playing in the summer or on a particularly sunny day, you might find that a cap or sunhat can help to keep the sun out of your eyes and protect your face. Sunglasses can also work well, but hats will help to keep the sun off of your head as well.
